Every free moment becomes an opportunity to explore the country’s rich culture, breathtaking landscapes, and friendly people.

Safaris and National Parks

Uganda is home to some of Africa’s most stunning national parks. Volunteers can enjoy game drives in Lake Mburo, Kidepo, Kibaale, Queen Elizabeth, or Murchison Falls National Park, spotting elephants, giraffes, lions, hippos, and more. For those seeking untouched wilderness, Kidepo Valley National Park offers a remote safari experience like no other. Park entry fees start from around $40, with game drives and boat cruises ranging between $20–$30.

Adventure and Outdoor Activities

If you’re looking for excitement, Uganda won’t disappoint. You can hike the trails of Sipi Falls, go abseiling or join a coffee tour in the eastern highlands. In Jinja, the adventure capital of East Africa, you can try white-water rafting on the Nile ($125), bungee jumping ($120), or a peaceful boat ride on the river. Trekking opportunities also await at Mount Elgon or the Rwenzori Mountains, where guided hikes start at about $35–$70 per day.

Cultural and Local Experiences

Uganda’s culture is as vibrant as its landscapes. While volunteering, you can explore Kampala’s bustling markets, visit historical sites like the Kasubi Tombs, or enjoy traditional music and dance at the Ndere Cultural Centre (entry about $15). Food is an adventure in itself: try local favorites such as matoke, rolex, or luwombo, with meals costing between $2–$10.

For quiet moments, volunteers can relax by the shores of Lake Victoria or take a weekend trip to the Ssese Islands, famous for sandy beaches, canoeing, and fishing. Affordable guesthouses are available from $20–$40 per night, while budget-friendly hotels in towns can be found from $15 upwards.

Volunteer and Explore

With Kalagala Education Initiative, volunteering isn’t just about making a difference in children’s lives—it’s also about creating lifelong memories in one of Africa’s most welcoming countries. Whether you’re on safari, hiking waterfalls, learning about Ugandan culture, or relaxing by a lake, every experience adds value to your journey.
